Summary
John Jay's satisfaction with Pickering's public labors gives him gratification and happiness, as does the esteem of all great men. But do not refined talents often fail with the "great mass" of a community? Quotes St. Paul: "I had rather speak five words with the understanding, than ten thousand in an unknown tongue." Such considerations led him to address certain facts and conjectures to Gov. Sullivan and also to contemplate the previously mentioned public statement, still incomplete.
