- United States--History--Revolution, 1775-1783; Jay, John, 1745-1829
- Summary
- Has read with pleasure the letter which he wrote to Pinckney, and also notices with approbation the use to which Adet's indiscrete note has been put. While Jay does not expect war with France, the popular demonstrations in support of that nation are to be regretted. While in Spain he communicated some information given to him by Montmorin. As this may still be in cypher, and should not be revealed during the life of the Minister, it should be used with caution, but does give an excellent indication of the state of affairs at the beginning of the Revolution.
