- Summary
- "Private and confidential" letter. Transmits a dispatch he sends to Hammond. Bemoans the intrusion of "personal animosities" into foreign affairs on the part of Mr. Randolph. Fears lest such behavior endanger the work he and John Jay have completed. Assures John Jay that Hammond will restrain himself, in the future, from using any language liable to misrepresentation or misinterpretation by American Anglophobes. Trusts that a similar resolution will govern U.S. Government in its relations with Hammond."
