- Summary
- Encloses some "Remarks on that part of the ...Project of a Treaty...which purports accession or dereliction by the U.S. of the country lying to the westward and northward of either of the two Lines therein proposed and described." "Remarks"--deal with second article of proposed treaty enclosed in Grenville to John Jay 30 August 1794. John Jay attacks two reasons given by Grenville for his proposed boundary settlement. 1) cannot be certain that Mississippi would not be intersected by line drawn due west from Lake-of-the-Woods. 2) Treaty of Peace does not state or imply that Great Britain must have access to a navigable portion of the River within her territory as well as free navigation of the Mississippi.
