- Summary
- Friesland has acknowledged the sovereignty of the United. Holland has distributed Adams' request [for recognition] and it will be considered in Amsterdam tomorrow. The Estates-General have promising news from Petersburg and the East and West Indies. Hopes for a speedy treaty, a delay would only be due to Spain. Is sure that if Spain makes a treaty now with Jay, the Dutch republic would do the same immediately after. Suggests that Jay use the 10th article of the Treaty of Alliance between America and France, in which the parties agree to act together, to persuade the French ambassador to put pressure on the Spanish king.
