Summary:
Same as Na1I: 3517. Contains copy of letter from Evert Van Alen, 20 June 1814, informing him of the sale of part of his land to pay taxes assessed for building a road from Albany to the River St. Lawrence. Ask his opinion in consequence of the letter to him from Evert Van Alen did not prevent the sale of the most valuable part of his property. Before he advances the money for redeeming the land, wishes to know John Jay's opinion as to the value of the property to an alien and non-resident. Is not disinclined to share in a tax for the improvement of the estate, but would like to know if it is actually being improved and whether if the property is ultimately sold it would be advantageous to now redeem the portion in question.
