- The welfare of the nation, and the happiness of its people depend upon the most extreme steps to prevent the Antifederal party from taking over the reins of the government they intend to destroy. He urges that Jay call the legislature and have it pass a law that the New York electors be elected by the people divided into Districts. This will insure a National selection of a federalist President. Jay has endorse the letter, "...proposing a measure for Party purposes which I think it would not become me to adopt."
