- Summary
- Describes the voyage and friendly reception by the Chinese at Canton of the first American ship to sail to that country. The French were especially friendly to the Americans. An English gunner accused of a crime was finally given up to the Chinese after they had kidnapped a supercargo in reprisal. Trade stopped until the exchange made and then trade restored. The fate of the gunner unlearned.
