- The writer is a member of Congress and a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs. Finance is the principal, if not the sole, embarrassment of Congress. Reports the unsuccessful attempt to take Savannah, Georgia, by allied forces, and death of Pulaski. Outside of Savannah the British have little power in Georgia, and the State government is reorganized. Six or seven thousand British troops arrived in New York about Christmas, and it is expected that they will be dispatched for service in the South. Both Clinton and Cornwallis have sailed and Knyphausen commands in New York, but it is not known whether Clinton has left for England. Unofficial reports from the Floridas state that Spanish are in possession of Pensacola and move toward St. Augustine.
