- Has read Jay's thanksgiving proclamation with appreciation of its sentiments-but alas, what may come of such a usurpation of the prerogatives of the clergy? Ever since Henry VIII made a hodge-podge of civil and clerical matters, this has been in conflict! To be serious, he does intend to go to church on Thanksgiving Day and hopes to see John Jay there.
