Summary
Election just ended in New York a few days ago; hopes to be able to congratulate his father on his success in it soon. Surprised to hear from Peter Munro how much opposition there was in Rye. Cattle from Marlborough arrived from Providence and seem weakened by the trip. Mother will send them to Rye. The apple branch grafted on a walnut tree as told by Mr. Lewis to Jay strengthens the authority of Virgil's opinion that pears can be grafted on thorns. (see letter of April 25). Commencement will be next Wednesday. Will plant the mulberry seeds when he goes to Rye.
