- Summary
- Personal business news. Judge Benson received John Jay's letter, and asked Peter to convey a description of his situation, which could not be helped by any friends. Benson was made executor of Judge Lawrence's estate, and had left his blank endorsement on several notes to pay amounts falling due while he was in Congress. On his return, it was discovered that John Lawrence, the judge's son, had sold several of these endorsed notes for between $11,000 and $12,000. Young Lawrence has also wasted part of his sisters' portion of the estate which renders Benson answerable. The latter has made no arrangement with his creditors and is undecided what to do.
