- Summary
- Family and personal business news. Has some doubts as to whether John Holmes, to whom he has paid out money under a deed from General Van Cortlandt, is the son of Abijah. There was never so much money in the city and so little demand for it. In the New York Bank there are deposits to the amount of one half more than their whole capital. The government grows more unpopular daily. The Council of Appointment and the City Corporation have made some imprudent appointments, and have turned out good officers merely because they were Clintonians. The Radcliffites seem determined to have their revenge. Is happy to hear Judge Miller preserves his spirits and should be glad to see him there again. His honor places him above those superior to him in fortune.
