- Frederick's letter of December 1, enclosing copies of his letters of November 8 (see document 6332) and 18. Letter of 18 November giving details of robbery of Jay family residence by Loyalist troops and sale of slaves to reduce size of family. One slave was freed and continues to live with the Jays. Their father is ill, and Sir James has delayed his departure for Philadelphia to attend him. Cloth received, but is of such poor quality that it is little better than paper. John Jay should send no more as it is not worth the cost of transportation and he has been "imposed upon" in its purchase.
