United States--History--Revolution, 1775-1783; Jay, John, 1745-1829
Summary:
Has just received the fifth volume of Franklin's works, edited by William Temple Franklin. Cites a paragraph on page 293 which state that journals kept by Jay and Adams down to the Treaty of 1783 are in the possession of the editor and will soon be published with other important historical matter. Since no person has ever been in possession of such a journal by John Jay, presumes that Franklin refers to copies of Jay's and Adams's official letters to Congress on the negotiation. Submits to Adams what conduct they should follow in the matter before he comes to any conclusion. Since the day "not very remote" when these papers are to come out may occur after their departure from this world, they will not then be able to correct errors or misconceptions.
