- Summary
- Their daughter still shows no sign of smallpox, despite her fourth inoculation. Mr. Stevens, Mrs. Livingston's father, died of a "putrid fever." Susan wishes to remind Jay of her lottery. The Munro family dines with them today. John Jay's brother and his wards were invited but he is too busy. Essex and Peter Jay are together at Rye. Frank and all the servants are behaving very well. "Indeed it is incredible how much our tranquility depends on our servants." The stock prices are no longer published in newspapers, as the legislature forbid it to eradicate speculation. Mr. William Duer and Mr. Comb are still confined.
