- Gratitude for Jay's letter. Other letters mentioned in his, not received. Had hoped his silence meant he was on his way back home. Congress impatient for his return. Sister Caty and others away, Sarah is "sole mistress" with time to meditate. A word from Jay would enliven, direct, and improve her meditation. Has just learned Jay is with her father. His consolation from Jay's presence overcomes her wish to influence Jay to return sooner.
