Summary
Has learned of Jay's unexpected action in protesting his bills. A volunteer aide de camp has no pay and has to pay himself for his horses and expenses. The restriction to six months pay as a Captain of foot was a fatal regulation. Littlepage is indignant that Jay would suspect him of spending an unnecessary penny. He has an independent income, and there is no need to consult his friends. "You sir! was the cause of my leaving my friends and country; they confided me to your protection and support: enough! Their expectations are answered! "P.S.: Apologizes for any "improprieties" in his letter. He has been very ill for two days. As he will not return to Madrid, asks Jay to burn the cabinet of papers which he left.
