- Draft: Directs Nicoll to deliver a 2 drafts on one page letter to McDougall which Troup will give him. Requests Nicoll avoid future improprieties while forgetting their past differences. Draft of letter to McDougall identifies Nicoll as a college acquaintance of Jay. Asks that he be given a commission in a New York regiment as a start toward regaining the respect of his friends, and as a probationary step.
