- Summary
- Congress will not be silent on the subject of Jay's letter. Sir James has gone to England. "His political race like a new market horse has run round in a circle and brought him back to where he started." It is extraordinary that Franklin's son, Sir James, and Mr. Laurens are in England. Mr. Adams should be careful not to connect himself with those who are connected with England." I am not extravagant in my demands nor impressed with the quixotism of destroying either a giant or an enchantress because I fear not the force of one nor charm of the other but I wish that while the war lasts it may be a real war, and that when peace comes it may be real peace."
