- Summary
- Is afraid that the letter from Deane which he delivered is not legible because it was kept in a tin box in a barrel of rum; sends copy of letter by another post. Rogers lived in the same house with Deane in Paris, and can furnish information to Jay about Deane's transactions if desired. Rogers has returned to America by way of West Indies, hence the old date on Deane's letter; on the way back he was captured off Cape Ann but escaped. Hopes to take a letter from Jay to Clement Biddle, deputy quarter master.
