Summary
Spanish king told Austrian and Russian ambassadors that he cannot accept their mediation offer without first consulting his allies. To avoid delay the Spanish ambassador will give the Russian and Imperial ambassadors at Versailles the final answer. This displeases Kaunitz, who now finds the affair totally out of his hands. Del Campo will try to obtain a drawback on at least part of the duties complained of by Harrison and Leconteure. Very anxious to hear from Jay, who has not written to him yet. No news from Gibraltar. Here the Spanish bank has so far only had 10% of its proposed capitalization subscribed to, and the Court is forced to get cash from Cabarrus at a loss. Cabarrus has still not given him their account. The Count d'Artois has been received enthusiastically by everyone.
