- Summary
- Spoke to the Marquis of Yranda to find out his intentions with respect to furnishing Jay with cash here in return for the bills drawn on Dr. Franklin. The marquis said he had received no instructions from Mr. Grand to supply Jay with money for this purpose. He continued to make this denial after Carmichael read a passage from Franklin's letter stating that he had made arrangements with Mr. Grand to write to the Marquis to supply Jay with up to 25,000 dollars. The Marquis promises to do what he can, but requests a copy of the passage from Franklin's letter authenticated by Jay and with an exact list of the bills accepted. This request will have to be complied with before the Marquis will give them any money, but Jay had better see the Marquis himself in any case.
