- He still complains about mail being opened--"Jealousy and suspicion never sleep in Governments of a certain Denomination-" His brother Peter should have the farm at Rye, but should not move there until the summer of 1784, and certainly not before New York is evacuated by the British. He will go to England to collect legacies left the Jay family by Mrs. Peloquin. Then will realize his long hope of becoming a private citizen again.
