- Summary
- Letterbook copy of document 7808. Jay now owes on bills up to $70,000. Fears that many more bills have been drawn on him than the sum authorized by Franklin will cover. Asks for more money. With Robert Morris's appointment as Financier and the vigorous measures he is pursuing, American credit should be established. Protests of the bills already issued will hamper Morris. Sure Morris will abandon practice of drawing bills without previous funds. Jay thinks he should have only general authority to draw on Franklin to the limit he shall set. In postscript, says that Yranda stated that Grand can accept no more bills from Jay without Franklin's further order. Asks for clarification of this restriction.
