Summary
Franklin's letter enabled him to restore credit lost when unable to pay all the bills due. Will reply with list of bills as soon as possible. British parliament's resolutions may be catalyst for other European states, especially Holland. Believes Spanish conduct towards America so contrary to sound policy that will not learn except through direct experience. As for separate peace, contrary to integrity of the United States and therefore to be rejected. As long as France remains true, should act in concert with her, but as no agreements between Spain and Holland, free to negotiate without them. Commends France's gift of six millions and likes idea of paying back Spain. Looks to time in future when will no longer be held back by prudence and can conduct themselves in a manner fitting to "a just, a free, and a brave People, who have nothing to fear from, nor request of them."
