Summary:
Gives a detailed account of the damage to the ship Confederacy by a storm and its putting in at the West Indies port of Martinique. Jay would have nothing to do with Gerard's obvious desire to make his opinions on the rest of the voyage known to the captain. Jay gave his opinion at the captain's request. (A copy of it attached.) Gerard wanted to go to Cadiz by way of Azores rather than to Martinique. Gerard became displeased with Jay for favoring Martinique over Cadiz and was even further incensed when his desires for landing the ship at the former island were not heeded. The town of Port Royal now knows the whole story.
