Jay has no intelligence of the arrival of Laurens or even of his sailing. Jay has no power in the matter or he would authorize de Neufville to make a loan in Holland. Cannot speak for Franklin but will write to him. The loss of Charlestown is only a temporary defeat. America has two new friends and consequently Britain has made two more enemies.
