- Summary
- This copy from the French foreign office files is identical with the National Archives copy (4117) and the Jay Letter book (3364), both of which have translations into English appended. The French have added a short caption. Count Floridablanca will have no difficulty in having the 333 large piastre note which M. Jay mentioned in his note of yesterday paid, but it will be impossible to comply with other sums so easily without consulting the king. Since the "means" proposed up to now were not acceptable to the congress, it is necessary to look for others. Jay would do well to ponder this so that he can tell Count Floridablanca all that his wisdom suggests. Enclosure in DLC: 10256.
