- Summary
- 100,000 dollars worth of bills have arrived. A loan cannot be secured here. Jay is uncertain as to what the Court will do. Encloses a note from Montmorin containing Vergennes' advice on Jay's problem - the sum he would need would probably greatly exceed 25,000 dollars. Jay's situation continues to be unpleasant. He has often been asked when the supplies would be reimbursed. Jay has answered that he needed an account of the amount and terms. Jay has not refused to accept any of the bills drawn on him. He has written Congress to stop drawing further bills until proper funds might be established for their payment.
