Summary
Since his last letter, Lincoln heard that the garrison at Sunbury and 100 troops fell to the enemy under General Prevost, and that two American galleys were burned. Prevost is on his way to take possession of Savannah. The enemy will be in Savannah itself and in places forty or fifty miles above it in order to prevent the Americans from crossing the river. According to the best information Lincoln could get, they plan to stay there because they are not numerous enough to attack Carolina. Even after Prevost arrives with his men, the enemy will not number more than 4000. General Howe can furnish more information about this. General Ashe is expected within a few days with a large force.
