- Summary
- The forces of General Williamson, totaling 800 men, fall far short of expectations. When General Ashe arrives the forces will number from 1600 to 1700. Ever since the resolution of the state assembly, which declares the Georgia militia under General Lincoln to be in continental pay, but governed by regulations imposed by the Georgia assembly, Lincoln has not known how to regard the Georgia militiamen. They do as they please, and leave their posts and commands with impunity. Unless they are curbed, there is no way to defeat the enemy. As soon as Lincoln can obtain an accurate count of the troops, he will send it to John Jay.
