- Summary
- Stevens would like to open a public subscription to form a railroad from Trenton to New Brunswick, but is apprehensive that the novelty of the undertaking would stop individuals from investing their money in it. Therefore, in order to demonstrate its feasibility, Stevens would like to build a small railroad to run from the Ferry House and hotel at Hoboken to a short distance from there. Stevens wishes to borrow about $2500. from John Jay for the demonstration railroad. As security, he would give John Jay another mortgage on his Weehawken property, already mortgaged to John Jay for $5000.
