- Summary
- Acknowledges receipt of Duane's letter of 16 May, in reply to John Jay's of the 13th,with regrets that Duane made such a painful effort in answering from his sickbed. John Jay sent Adams a copy of a letter from Duane on 27 March, but received no reply until 19 May. The journals ascribed to John Jay and Adams must be either the letters, copies, extracts, or abridgments of those written during the negotiations for peace in 1783. John Jay is inclined to think that they are abridgments. He. would like to have copies of the journals in order to correct any errors and to see how judiciously the abridgments were made. John Jay will forward the copy of Adams' journal on to him.
