Summary
John Jay received from his son a copy of Kirkland's letter of 15 September to Peter Augustus Jay, which told of Kirkland's plan to address the American Academy of Arts and Sciences on Jefferson and Adams. John Jay can recall no copy of a letter from Adams to Mr. Wythe which may have influenced the New York Convention to favor a legislature of two houses. In fact, John Jay can remember no controversy over the establishment of two-house legislatures in any state except Pennsylvania.
