Summary
Washington has not yet been able to proceed in the case of the soldiers confined for seditious or treasonable practices, but he hopes that the Province of New York will take steps concerning persons confined by them for treasonable activity. He also advises that speedy and effective steps be taken to remove persons unfriendly to America's course from New York City and its environs. It would also be advisable to remove Tory prisoners from the city jail, because they might be dangerous in the event of an alarm or attack on New York City. It would be for the better for those who know the inhabitants of New York to attend to the safety of that colony than to have the business done by army officers.
