- Acknowledges receipt of 17 July. Washington's lack of knowledge of the Hudson River prevents him from giving the help and advice the secret committee asks. If the committee can do anything effectual, however, Washington will give them all the assistance he can. Washington had thought of erecting obstructions at Mount Washington, but many difficulties have prevented such a step.
