- Summary
- Autograph draft letter, signed version of document 10317. Has received only $34,880 of the $150,000 promised by Floridablanca in December. Montmorin came to his aid, interceding with Floridablanca and winning his promise to pay the $89,083 due in April in six monthly payments beginning in May. Montmorin also persuaded D'Yranda to advance money for bills due this month. Begs Franklin for help from France. D'Yranda has also promised to advance Jay $142,220 if Grand will accept D'Yranda's drafts for this amount. Asks Franklin to make arrangements. Montmorin has also written to his court on the subject, "...our Situation here is daily becoming more disagreeable from the Want of our Salaries..." Encloses account (not present) showing that Jay has drawn on Franklin for $10-12,000 without prior notice.
