- Summary
- Since the organization of the new government, Jefferson has been appointed Secretary of foreign affairs. Carmichael has been reappointed Charge des Affaires and the necessary documents will be sent to him. They are very anxious to know exactly what Carmichael has done and with what success in the subject of the asylum given fugitive slaves from Georgia in Pensacola. This matter has caused much uneasiness and occasioned losses to Georgians. It is hoped that Carmichael's representations to the Spanish Court will induce that Court to order their Governor to deliver up the slaves to their rightful owners and to discontinue offering them asylum.
