- Summary
- Asks for provision for supplying American captives in Algiers as well as funds already voted for their redemption. John Jay's earlier report on Jefferson's letter on subject (viz. 11 May 1786) contained a resolution confirming Jefferson's projected policy of supplying captives. Jefferson has told Algiers that Congress will not redeem captives-in order to facilitate their redemption. Would not be best to undeceive the Algerians at present time (12 October 1788 Congress voted funds), but "little supplies may...be conveyed."
