- Summary
- Jay has been despondent because of the misfortunes of family and friends, but "I hope I shall meet every severe stroke of fate with firmness and resignation, tho not with sullen indifference." If Jay had been present when the Committee for Canada was appointed, he would have nominated Livingston. His country has no demands on Livingston, however, until his health is restored.
