- Has not been good correspondent of late; had Mr. Shippen come to visit would have had letter from her when he arrived in France. Learned Colonel Ogden in France. Had given packet to Count Rochambeau , who was to sail with Mr. Jefferson and General Chattelux;. Then asked Mr. Franks and Mr. Vaughan, still ignorant what happened to them. Very happy hearing news that Jay family intends to return in the spring. Visit from uncle who took Peter to New York to see the ships. Peter not as improved as she would wish; wants to go to France to find his father. Very entertaining at dinner with guests. Tom Lawrence great help to him. Peter got letter from Harry Poughkeepsie, who will lose Mrs. Livingston from illness. Encloses Mrs. Morris' letters.
