Summary
Many thanks for letters, after three weeks silence. What English call "an uncommon fine autumn" would not be commended in America. Asks for news of family, have received no letters. Sorry for Mrs. Ridley's illness, perhaps should change doctors. Sore throat only a little better, problem of climate. Glad to hear the Doctor (Franklin) in such good spirits; as magnets like society but always return to the pole, hopes to do likewise.
