- Summary
- Sends letter by his son Samuel, who wishes to study for the practice of law in the United States. Asks that the young man be placed with a lawyer who resides away from the large cities-which offer too many opportunities for dissipation. Also his age indicates that a three father than five year clerkship would be desirable. If Alexander Hamilton did not reside in New York he would like him to study with him. Refer the young man to John Jay to obtain his advice in this regard.
