- Summary
- Every person prefers her or his native land. We "think ourselves happy in not being born amid the gloom of superstition, ignorance, and idolatry, but under the sweet simplicity of the gospel." Washington makes rapid progress toward New York City, and the French fleet is expected any day. Mentions a monody in the New York paper on Major Andre. It is very nice except that it represents Washington as a coward and murderer. News of the army in Virginia. Encloses a letter from Peter Augustus (document 6042).
