- Reply to George Washington'S letter of the 29th. Desire for retirement. If "judiciary was on the proper footing" would prefer no post to that of Chief Justice. Expects to sail in fortnight. Will forward letter George Washington asked to be transmitted to brother of addressee. Thanks George Washington for demonstrations of esteem. Will return letter of 29th to him so that there will be no chance of its being made public.
