- Summary
- Encloses a letter from Mr. Slidell and his answer to it. Perceives no other objection to the sum retained by Peter (of the amount to be deposited for John Jay) than this: though it may not exceed the balance due him, such a settlement should have been previously made and the balance ascertained. Though there are cases when conjectural balances are not improperly provided for in such a way "the Case in question is not one of them."
