- Summary
- Reply to Grenville's "private and confidential" letter of 21 Nov. Hopes for Anglo-American rapprochement: "The storm I hope will soon cease; but the agitation of the waters will naturally take some time to subside..." Has good opinion of Hammond, but thinks he might not be best man for job in America. Is sure more caution will be used in future in America concerning premature publication of official correspondence. High opinion of Sir John Temple. Mr. Hamilton, consul in Virginia., has a private character that "is far from being estimable." Thinks British privateers might be best recalled.
