- Summary
- Not sure if Treaty will be concluded. Will press for speed rather than risk delays and failure. Randolph's letter by Monroe and Monroe's speech have caused unfavorable reaction in London. Men in office should be more prudent in their speech. Regrets reports that Virginia is escheating British property. Knows that attempts will be made in United States to frustrate the negotiation. Relies on his faith in the Government and integrity of people. Thinks political connection with a foreign power unwise.
