- Summary
- Has received a letter from Worcester, author of some pamphlets entitled "The Friend of Peace," which had been sent to him in 1816. Worcester has heard of John Jay's disapproval of the object of the pamphlets and wishes a confirmation or denial of this report. Jay clarifies his position on the goals of the Peace Society: approves of the object of the Peace Society insofar as it exposes the guilt and evil of unnecessary war. However, war which is just and necessary is in accordance with the Moral Law. Until the Gospel has corrected the depravity of mankind, the wickedness resulting from it will produce national sins and punishments, and render just wars occasionally indispensable.
